Congratulations to our new Ohio State Champion, Ryan Bailey. Ryan won the 2013 Division I title in the 100 yard Butterfly, 48.92. He also placed 4th in the 100 yard Breaststroke, 56.94. Both times were school records and earned All-American honors. Ryan accepted an appointment to the United States Naval Academy where he will swim for the Mid-Shipmen this season.
Congratulations also to Colleen Manning, Brooke Bailey, Jordyn Markovitch, Jessica Hilk, and Gaby DeAscentis for also qualifying for the 2013 State Championships in both the 200 and 400 freestyle relays. These five girls broke school records in all three relays during the state tournament. Brooke Bailey also set new school records in the 100 butterfly and the 500 freestyle during the season. This was our 14th consecutive year of participation at the Ohio State Swimming and Diving Championships.
Once again, Carlo Cordon will be on the deck with me this year. Joining us on the deck again will be Chad DeAngelo who is in his third year as a teacher of Science at Boardman. Coach DeAngelo was a former Spartan captain, three-time state qualifier, and Academic All-American. Our divers will be coached by Ron Navarra. Ron is a YSU grad with a degree in Human Performance and Exercise Science and Sports.

Last year right before the Christmas break we hosted our second bi-annual alumni / varsity swim meet. It was fantastic to see many of our former swimmers show up and participate in the event. I am happy to report that all swimmers enjoyed the event. The social after the meet was just as much fun. Our current team members were honored to meet and swim against our alums. Our next alumni meet will be scheduled for December 2014.
We are extremely proud of our athletes and their accomplishments. Our goal is to continue to move the program forward in all aspects. Thank you in advance for your continued support of Boardman Varsity Swimming and Diving, and be sure to check back soon for updates throughout the season!
Regards,
Terry O’Halloran
