Four School Records Broken at 2016 Northeast District Championships
Sophomore Callen Aulizia Sophomore Callen Aulizia will be swimming in four events at the 2016 Division I Ohio State Swimming and Diving Championships in Canton on Friday and Saturday this weekend. Aulizia was an automatic qualifier in the 100 freestyle by finishing in second place with a time of 46.49. The time was the second fastest in school history. He also posted a state qualifying time of 21.54 while placing 8th in the 50 freestyle.
Senior Aaron DunLany broke two individual Spartan records in the 200 freestyle (1:45.88) and the 500 freestyle (4:43.64) while qualifying for states in the 500 third place swim. The other individual Boardman school record was broken by senior Corie Kuras in the 50 freestyle.
Kuras’s time of 24.57 broke the mark of 24.62 held by Ashley Aldan. Aulizia and DunLany teamed with senior Ethan Schwendeman and sophomore Kyle Kimerer to shatter the school record in the 400 free relay. They knocked 3.5 seconds off the record they broke the week before at the sectional qualifier. Their new time 3:13.06 qualified the relay for the state meet. The same four Spartan swimmers just missed a school record time in qualifying the 200 free relay to the state meet. They finished third in the time of 1:27.52. The current school record in the 200 free relay stands at 1:27.40. Kimerer scored points for the Spartans in both the 200 freestyle and the 100 butterfly. He placed 9th in the 200 free in a career best time of 1:47.03 and 12th place in the 100 butterfly in the time of 54.23.
Terry O’Halloran had this to say about the Spartan performance. “We had an excellent district meet. The swimmers were rested and ready to go. As a result we are heading back to Canton for the 17th consecutive year. Our final 400 boy’s free relay was electrifying! They all had career best splits and terrific relay take-offs. Knocking three and a half seconds off a school record at the conclusion of a very competitive day is an amazing accomplishment.” The Ohio State Swimming and Diving Championships will be held at C. T. Branin Natatorium in Canton. The preliminary events will be at 9:00am Friday, February 26 and finals on Saturday, February 27 at 4pm.
