Boardman swimmers and divers won two tri-meets over the holiday break. On December 21 st the girl’s team scored 155 points against Massillon Perry’s 95 points and Canfield’s 72. The boys scored 153 point, Canfield 111, and Perry 59. The Spartans won both sides of the December 29 th meet against Massillon Washington and Canfield. The girls took first place with the score of 164 points. Canfield placed second with 98 points. Washington took third with 47. The boys took first place with 153 points, Canfield 2 nd with 101, and Washington 3rd with 49 points.
Both teams now have 5 wins and 2 losses going into the second half of the season. Senior diver Megan Janak continued her winning ways on the 1-meter board and posted the second highest 6 dive point total in Spartan history. Her score of 243.53 against Canfield and Massillon Washington was less than one point behind the school record score of 244.35 points set by Kelli Yozwiak in 1996. Megan and the other nine Spartan divers are coached by Ron Navarra. He had this to say about Megan’s performances:
Megan is a highly motivated and talented diver. She is adding harder dives to her routine which increases the degree of difficulty. Even though she has only one year of high school diving experience behind her, she knows how to stay calm and focused on her dives in pressure situations.
