Spartan Swim and Dive Teams Split at Shaker Heights

The Spartan boys’ team has 7 wins and 2 losses in dual meet competition while the girls’ team stands at 6 and 3. Boardman has two more meets to finish out the dual meet season before the Canton Sectional Championships on February 10. On Tuesday January 23 rd the Spartan seniors and parents will be honored at Y. S. U.’ s Beeghly Natatorium at 4:45pm before the meet against Poland at 5pm. On Friday the Spartan swimmers and divers will conclude the dual meet season against North Canton Glenoak at C. T. Branin Natatorium. The meet starts at 6pm. The Canton Sectionals will be held at C. T. Branin Natatorium in Canton on Saturday, February 10. The swimming competition begins at 9am. The diving sectionals will be held at Akron University’s Ocasek Natatorium. The girl’s diving is Wednesday, February 7 th at 6pm. The boy’s diving is Thursday, February 8 th at 6pm at Akron University.

The Spartans traveled to Shaker Heights this past Saturday. The girls lost to Shaker by the score of 97 to 89. The Spartans downed the Shaker boys by the score of 102-81. Junior Mikel Flatley was a double winner in her two individual events. She posted a 25.60 to win the 50 freestyle and a 1:12.83 to capture first in the 100 yard breaststroke. Mikel teamed with Alyssa Dinapoli, Alison Kuras and Ella Hare to win the 200 medley relay in the time of 2:02.96. The Boardman divers swept 1 st , 2 nd , and 3 rd in the 1 meter diving. Megan Janak scored 186.60 points to place first. Madison Ricciuti placed second with 167.90 points and Gizzy Kelso scored 160.20 to finish 3 rd . Sophomore Noah Basista and Callen Aulizia were double winners for the Spartan boys’ team. Noah won the individual medley in the time of 2:05.64 and the 100 breaststroke in the time of 1:03.10. Callen posted wins in the 50 freestyle (22.27) and 100 freestyle (48.71) events. Noah and Callen were also on two of the winning boy’s relay teams. They were joined on both relays by Matt Dunlany and Kyle Kimerer. The boy’s won the 200 medley in the time of 1:41.28 and the 200 free relay in the time of 1:29.56. Will Linker placed first in the 500 freestyle in the time of 5:09.01. Jordan Stackpole was a close second in the 500 with the time of 5:09.29. Kyle Kimerer posted a time of 1:48.58 to win the 200 freestyle.
