Sarah Gonda broke the school record in the 100 yard backstroke while winning the consolation finals and placing 9th overall.  Brooke Bailey placed 3rd in the finals of the 100 yard breaststroke at the 10th Annual Canton City Schools Christmas Invitational Swim Meet held at C. T. Branin Natatorium on December 21st.  There were 109 high school teams from across Ohio represented at the meet.  Gonda and Bailey were joined by Seniors Jessica Hilk and Jordyn Markovitch on the Spartan 5th place medley relay team.  The girls clocked in at a season best time of 1:53.09 in the 200 yard medley relay.  Sarah Gonda’s backstroke time of 1:00.92 broke the school record time of 1:01.12 that was set by Gaby DeAscentis in 2012.  Brooke Bailey’s had a career best time of 1:07.43 while placing third in the 100 yard breaststroke.  She also place 14th in the 100 butterfly in the time of 1:00.64.  Jordyn Markovitch won the bonus heat in the 100 yard freestyle and placed 18th overall with the time of 56.49.  Coach Terry O’Halloran had this to say about the meet and the Spartan performances.  “The Canton Christmas Invitational is the first meet of the season that brings together a lot of the fastest swimmers and best divers in Ohio.  The prelim / final format, the location, and the overall competition models the state meet in February.  We were pleased with how our girls stacked up against many of the top swimmers in Ohio.  Experience counts when you reach the evening finals and we have it this year.  Brooke, Sarah, and Jordyn took control of their individual races from start to finish.  All four girls on the medley relay were fired up had their best splits.  Positive team chemistry goes a long way in this sport.”...   Read Full Post
