Boardman swimmers and divers won two tri-meets over the holiday break. On December 21 st the girl’s team scored 155 points against Massillon Perry’s 95 points and Canfield’s 72. The boys scored 153 point, Canfield 111, and Perry 59. The Spartans won both sides of the December 29 th meet against Massillon Washington and Canfield. The girls took first place with the score of 164 points. Canfield placed second with 98 points. Washington took third with 47. The boys took first place with 153 points, Canfield 2 nd with 101, and Washington 3rd with 49 points.
New School Record in the Boys 200 Free Relay
High school swim teams from across the state, including 2017 division one team champions St. Xavier (boys) and Mason (girls), converged on Canton for Saturday’s all day swimming and diving competition at C. T. Branin Natatorium. Even though there was no team scoring the Boardman Spartan swim teams had an outstanding day. The Spartan boys shattered the school record in the 200 freestyle relay. Senior Kyle Kimerer led off the record setting relay in the time in 22.00 followed by Sophomore Noah Basista who split a 21.43. The third leg was swum by Sophomore Matthew DunLany who split a 22.09. Senior Callen Aulizia anchored and split a sizzling 20.30. Their time of 1:25.82 broke the mark of 1:27.23 set in 2016 by Aaron DunLany, Ethan Schwendeman, Kimerer, and Aulizia. The boys in the relay also won two individual event titles, placed second in four events, had two third places, and a fourth place finish. In addition senior freestyle sprinter Callen Aulizia was voted as the “Male Swimmer of the Meet” by the coaches.
Spartan Swimmers Break Five Records in Week Two and Take First Place in the Northeast Ohio 7 Team Relay Championships
The Spartan boys’ team collected one school record, one Northeast Ohio Relay Meet record, and three Massillon Jackson pool records in meets this past weekend. Senior Kyle Kimerer posted a time of 1:45.56 in the 200 freestyle breaking the Boardman school record time of 1:45.88 set in 2016 by Aaron DunLany. An hour later Kimerer broke a Massillon Jackson pool record in the 100 butterfly with his first place time of 51.94. At the end of the meet Kimerer teamed with Senior Callen Aulizia and sophomores Mathew DunLany and Noah Basista to take first in the 400 freestyle relay in a new Jackson pool record time of 3:18.53. Right before the 400 relay Basista took down the 100 breaststroke pool record placing first in the time of 1:00.88. Friday night’s dual meet at Massillon Jackson was won on both the sides by the Polar Bears by the boy’s score of 92 to 84 and the girl’s score of 113.5 to 72.50. After week two both Spartan teams are 3-2 in dual meet competition.
