The Boardman High School Swimming and Diving team is coached by Terry O’Halloran, Carlo Cordon, Chad DeAngelo, and Ron Navarra (diving). The coaches combine to bring over 74 years of coaching experience to the pool deck.
Coach O’Halloran recently retired from teaching Fourth Grade at Stadium Drive Elementary School for 38 years and has been coaching at Boardman Tennis and Swim Club for 40 years. He has been the head coach of the Boardman High School swim team since it was founded in 1985.
Over the past 30 years, Coach O’s swimmers have won 4 state championships, produced 72 qualifications to the Ohio High School State Championships, and earned 15 All-American time standards and 54 Academic All-American awards.
Coach Cordon teaches Social Studies at Glenwood Middle School and coaches in the summer at Applewood Swim Club. He has been teaching at Glenwood for the past 19 years. Coach Cordon was also a prominent name on the swim team’s Top-25 list for many years in the 500 freestyle until he was ritualistically ousted from the list by Scott Dickens on a cold, dark and stormy day in the winter of 2001.
Coach Cordon and Coach O have earned level four certifications by the American Swimming Coaches Association. Only 10 percent of all swimming coaches in the world have reached this certification level. Coach Cordon and Coach O have teamed up to take BHS swimmers to the State Championship meet for the past fifteen consecutive seasons.
Coach DeAngelo teaches science at Boardman High School and is a former team captain, three-time state qualifier and an All-American for the Spartan swim team. He is also the head coach at Boardman Tennis and Swim Club in the summer.
