The Boardman High School Swimming and Diving team is coached by Carlo Cordon, Chad DeAngelo, Ryan Ebie and Ron Navarra (diving). The coaches combine to bring over 55 years of coaching experience to the pool deck.
(Head Coach 1985-2018)
Coach O’Halloran helped found the Boardman High School Swim Team in 1985. During that time he served as Head Coach of the Boardman Tennis & Swim Club for over 40 years, and taught at Stadium Drive Elementary School for 38 years.
Coach O’Halloran recently retired as head coach of the BHS Swim & Dive Team after 33 years. At the OHSAA State Swim Meet, he was then named the Ohio Division I “Boys Swim Coach of the Year.”
Over the past 30 years, Coach O’s swimmers have won 4 state championships, produced 72 qualifications to the Ohio High School State Championships, and earned 15 All-American time standards and 54 Academic All-American awards.
Coach O’Halloran’s coaching tree includes all 3 of BHS’s current coaches: Carlo Cordon, Chad DeAngelo and Ryan Ebie. We cannot thank you enough for everything you have done and you will always be a part of this program.
Coach Cordon teaches social studies at Glenwood Middle School and coaches in the summer at Applewood Swim Club. He has been teaching at Glenwood for the past 19 years. Coach Cordon was also a prominent name on the swim team’s Top-25 list for many years in the 500 freestyle until he was ritualistically ousted from the list by Scott Dickens on a cold, dark and stormy day in the winter of 2001.
Coach Cordon has earned level four certifications by the American Swimming Coaches Association. Only 10 percent of all swimming coaches in the world have reached this certification level. Coach Cordon has taken BHS swimmers to the State Championship meet for the past fifteen consecutive seasons.
Coach DeAngelo teaches science at Boardman High School and is a former team captain, three-time state qualifier and an All-American for the Spartan swim team. He is also the head coach at Boardman Tennis and Swim Club in the summer.
Diving Coach: Ron Navarra
Diving Coach Ron Navarra is certified coach through the OHSAA and the AAU. He graduated from YSU in 1994 with a degree in Human Performance and Exercise Science / Sports Management.
