The Boardman Girl’s and Boy’s Swim Teams won their NEAC Conference titles on Saturday January 5th at Wooster Natatorium. This 8 team conference includes Canfield, Wooster, Akron Firestone, Canton GlenOak, Massilon Perry, Massilon Washington, and Canfield.
GIRL SCORES: Boardman 407, Akron Firestone 404, Wooster 341, GlenOak 234, Perry 203, Warren Harding 155, Canfield 144, Massilon 63
The Boardman girls relay team of Mikel Flatley (Sr) Alison Kuras (Sr) Alyssa DiNapoli, (Jr) and Jennah Markovitch (Sr), set a new meet record in the 200 Free Relay with a time 1:41.26. This eclipsed the old mark set in 2014 also held by Boardman’s Brooke Bailey, Amanda Moss, Jessica Hilk, and Jordyn Markovitch. “This was the moment our girls realized they had a great chance of winning this meet. We were predicted a 3rd place finish behind Akron Firestone and Wooster, but this was a total team effort. We won this meet with all of our other top 16 finishes. This meant moving some of our swimmers out of their main events to help win this conference championship. Our only other first place finish was Mikel Flatley in the 100 yard butterfly (1:00.58),” explained Coach Cordon. “To win this meet by 3 points over Firestone was incredible!”
Other notable races include Alison Kuras 2nd place 50 freestyle and 4th place 100 freestyle, Mikel Flatley 3rd place 200 IM, Madi Ricciuti 2nd place 1 Meter Diving, Gizzy Kelso 3rd place 1 Meter Diving, Jordan Jones 5th place 1 Meter Diving, Sarah Varga 6th place 100 Butterfly, Alyssa DiNapoli 7th place 100 Freestyle and 3rd Place 100 Backstroke, Jennah Markovitch 4th place 200 Freestyle and 4th place 500 Freestyle, Abby Yocum 8th place 200 IM and 5th place 100 Breaststroke, Hayley Ho 3rd place in 100 Breaststroke, and Ella Huston 8th place 100 Backstroke.
