Boardman Swimmers Qualify for State Championships; Boys place 3rd at District Championships and Return to State Championships for 21st Consecutive Year

The Boardman High School Boys Swim Team competed this past weekend at the Northeast Ohio District Championships held at Cleveland State University Busby Natatorium and placed 3rd behind North Canton Hoover and Hudson in a field of 41 teams. They qualified 2 relays and 2 individuals that will be represented at the Ohio High School Swimming State Championships held at Canton McKinley’s CT Branin Natatorium on Friday and Saturday February 2st and 22nd. “We had a great meet! We had 6 members of our District Team sick this week so we knew we had to keep their spirits up. We wanted them to go out there and just race
and try to get in as many kids into the State meet as possible. It came together at the right time,” Coach Cordon mentioned.

Noah Basista qualified individually for the State Championships by earning an automatic bid by placing 2nd in the 100 Fly (50.06) and 3rd in the 100 Breaststroke (57.19). Matthew DunLany qualified individually for the State Championships by placing 4th in the 100 fly (51.37). Two of the Spartan relay teams will move on to the State Tournament. The Medley Relay team of River Flatley, Noah Basista, Matthew DunLany, and Will Linker placed 3rd with a time of 1:36.70 as well as the 400 Freestyle Relay which placed 2nd (3:10.63) and earned an automatic bid for the State Championships. Members of this relay include Will Linker, Jordan Stackpole, Matthew DunLany, and Noah Basista. Other Individual swimmers that finished in the top 30 for Boardman include sophomore Carter Cailor in the 100 Backstroke and the 500 Freestyle, freshman Ethan DunLany in the 500 Freestyle, junior Siman Mascola in the 200 IM and the 100 Breaststroke, and freshman Caleb Satterfield in the 200 IM and 100 Breaststroke.

On the girl’s side, Alexis Mihok placed 11th in the 200 freestyle and rebroke her own freshman record by going 1:57.77. The girl’s medley relay members of Alexis Mihok, Abby Yocum, Sarah Varga, and Alyssa DiNapoli placed 9th while the same girls in the 200 Freestyle relay placed 9th with a season best time of 1:41.48. Diver Madi Ricciuti placed 13th on the 1 meter boards. Other girls for Boardman that placed in the top 4 at Districts include sophomore Ella Huston in the 100 Backstroke and 100 Butterfly and freshman Julia Basista in the 100 Breaststroke.
