Boardman Swim/Dive Team Defeat Poland and South Range in Opening Season Triangular Meet

Girl’s Team Score: Boardman135 South Range 89 Poland 74

The Lady Tankers got off to a roaring start in their first swim meet of the season with a win over South Range and Poland. “We were very happy with our team’s effort in all of their races. We have a very young team after graduating 8 senior girls last season. However, they are very talented and motivated to work hard! We expect these young athletes to step up and they did. Assistant coaches Chad and Chelsea DeAngelo are incredible motivators and are able to get these kids to race with every ounce of effort they have!

These kids also know that just being able to compete against other teams
this winter is an opportunity that we must appreciate. Our kids really took that to heart and gave it their best effort today,” stated Coach Carlo Cordon, the head swimming coach for the Spartans.

Double winners for the Lady Tankers include sophomore Alexis Mihiok with her wins in the 50 Freestyle (26.74) and the 100 Fly (1:05.94).

Single winners for the Spartans include sophomore Julia Basista in the 200 IM (2:33.07), senior Allyson Schwendeman in the 100 backstroke (1:10.31), and sophomore Olivia Pickens in the 500 Freestyle (6:44.69).

Relay winners include the 200 Medley Relay of Alexis Mihok, Julia Basista, Allyson Schwendeman, and junior Hayley Ho (2:03.09), and the 200 Freestyle Relay of Hayley Ho, Allyson Schwendeman, Alexis Mihok, and senior Casey Wert (1:51.23).

Boy’s Team Score: Boardman 153 Poland 88 South Range 29

The Boardman Boys swam a great meet in their opening debut after graduating 8 senior boys in the spring of 2020. “It’s very difficult to graduate that many seniors, including 5 boys that qualified for the state championships last year, and continue our tradition. However, that’s the challenge we are faced with. All the athletes on our team know the expectations we have of them, and as of now, they have risen to the challenge,” Coach Cordon mentioned.

Double winners for the Spartans include: Sophomore Ethan DunLany in the 50 Free (24.44) and the 500 Free (5:14.10).

Single Event winners include: Senior Teddy Anzevino 1 meter diving (272.78), senior Siman Mascola in the 200 IM (2:13.49), freshman Owen Lee in the 100 Fly (1:01.58), sophomore Caleb Satterfield in the 100 Breaststroke (1:06.44).

Relay winners for the Spartans Boys include the 200 Medley Relay team of junior Carter Cailor, Caleb Satterfield, Siman Mascola, and Ethan DunLany (1:47.65) and the 200 Freestyle Relay members senior Jackson Behun, Carter Cailor, Siman Mascola, and Caleb Satterfield (1:37.54).

The Spartans host Wooster and Canfield at their next triangular meet on Saturday December 5th at Beeghly Natatorium at 1:00PM. This competition will be streamed live on www.ysnlive.com.
