Meet Summaries:
January was an excellent month for the Spartan Swim Teams. The girls posted eight wins against one loss while the boys won seven and lost two meets. The girls and boys split with the teams from Canfield and dominated Poland on both sides of the dual meet action. Against Canfield, Seniors Jordyn Markovitch, Jessica Hilk, and Junior Brooke Bailey had winning performances in four events. Markovitch won the 50 yard and the 100 yard Freestyle events. Bailey notched wins in the 100 Butterfly and 100 Breaststroke. Hilk took the honors in the 200 Freestyle. All three girls were joined by junior Sarah Gonda on the winning 400 Freestyle Relay. Gonda, Hilk, and Bailey were joined by Sophomore Amanda Moss on the winning 200 Medley Relay. Junior Julia Lewis along with Moss, Hilk, and Markovitch swam to victory in the 200 Freestyle Relay. Spartan Freshman Dominic Mariano won the 1 meter diving against Canfield. “The relays keyed our victory against 224 rivals Canfield and Poland on the girl’s side. We have the depth we need to move swimmers around to win the close meets. Our boy’s team made excellent this season and it showed in January. Junior team captains Tyler Calpin and David Zaitzew played a big part in motivating the underclassmen in and out of the water. Sophomore Aaron DunLany gets faster every time he hits the water. Freshman Richard Fisher posted the team’s fastest time in the 50 free this year. It looks like we have a solid foundation established on both side for next season” (Terry O’Halloran)
