Spartans have strong showing at NEAC Relays

On Saturday morning, the Northeast Aquatic Conference hosted its annual relay meet at Warren G. Harding High School. “This is the first conference meet of the season where all 8 teams put together different relays to race each other. This was also the first time we got to swim Akron Firestone, whois new to our conference this year,” stated Coach Carlo Cordon. “Firestone opened up the meet winning the 200 medley relay and setting a new meet record. We lost to Wooster in a few close relays, but we finished very strong at the end of the meet. Not enough to win this meet, but closeenough for us to believe in the process and to keep the championship meet in our sights.” Boardman relay winners include: Diving Relay of Gizzy Kelso and Madison Ricciuti, and the 400 Freestyle relay team of Jennah Markovitch, Alyssa DiNapoli, Alison Kuras, and Mikel Flatley....   Read Full Post

Boardman takes down Massillon Washington

Girl’s Tri Meet: Boardman 145, Canfield 92, Massilon 50

On Friday night, the Lady Spartan Swimmers traveled to Massillon for a tri meet vs the Tigers and the Canfield Cardinals. “Massillon traditionally has a very strong program and anytime we swim Canfield that motivates us to race,” mentioned Coach Carlo Cordon. The Spartan girls won all 12 events.

Double event winners include: Jennah Markovitch (Sr) in the 200 free (2:08.33) and the 500 free (5:4528), Mikel Flatley (Sr) in the 50 free (26.15) and the 100 fly (1:03.95)....   Read Full Post

BHS emerges victorious from Quad Meet

Girl’s Quad Meet: Wooster 190, Boardman 179, Canfield 92, Warren Harding 75

Saturday afternoon, the Spartan Swimmers and Divers opened their season with a Quadrangular Meet competing against Wooster, Canfield, and Warren Harding at Youngstown State’s Beeghly Natatorium. “Our kids were ready to race. They have been training in the water since late October and have been conditioning in the mornings before school since September. We are stronger andfaster at this time than last year, but the Wooster girls swam a solid meet. Spartans start the season with a family reunion

GIRL’s Score: (Varsity 115, Alumni 98)

The Boardman Swim and Dive Team recently hosted an alumni meet on Black Friday. Close to 40 alumni returned to compete against the current Varsity Team. “We usually host this meet every two years. It’s our way of having fun, staying connected to our past athletes, and showing our current varsity team what our tradition is all about,” stated Coach Cordon.

The Girl’s Alumni relay team of Gaby DeAscentis, Colleen Manning, Jordyn Markovitch, and Emily Bodamer opened up the meet by touching out the Varsity team of Mikel Flatley, Jennah Markovitch, MacKenzie Widrig, and Alison Kuras in the 100yd Medley Relay. Mikel Flatley was a triple winner forthe Varsity, setting two meet records in the 100 free, 50 free, and winning the 25 yd butterfly. Sarah Gonda led the Alumni Girls in winning two individual events in the 100 IM and the 50 backstroke. Gonda, who swims for Mount Union, set the new record in the 50 back by hitting a :29.30 in thatevent. Other event winners include Hayley Ho (Varsity) 50 breaststroke, Jennah Markovitch (Varsity) 25 yd freestyle, the relay team of Flatley, Alyssa DiNapoli, Markovitch, and Ali Kuras (Varsity) 100 yd Free Relay, and relay team of Kelsey Calpin, Mia Bruno, Ella Hare, and Sarah Murray (Alumni) winning the 200 free relay....   Read Full Post
