Spartans Compete at D1 Sectionals; Qualify 18 for the Northeast District High School Swimming and Diving Championships

The Boardman Spartan Swim and Dive Team qualified 18 athletes to compete in the 2020 Northeast District Division I High School Swimming and Diving Championships in Cleveland. Fifteen swimmers and three divers will represent the Spartans at the Robert F. Busbey Natatorium on the campus of Cleveland State University.

The divers will compete on Thursday and the swimmers will compete on Saturday with the goal of qualifying for the state meet the following weekend in Canton. Only 24 total athletes qualify per event for the Ohio

Boardman Boys Defeat Akron Firestone to Remain Undefeated; Girls Fall to State Ranked Akron Firestone

Boy’s Scores: Boardman 208, Akron Firestone 155, Warren G Harding 101, Canfield 55

With standing room only at Warren G. Harding High School Natatorium, the Spartan Boy’s Swimming and Diving team continued their winning streak by defeating Akron Firestone, Warren Harding, and Canfield.

Teddy Anzevino continued his run on the 1 meter board with a first place finish and with a score of 329.10 which broke Boardman’s team record set back in 1993 by Dan Anzevin (289.76).

Double event winners include: Will Linker in the 200 Free (1:53.68) and the 100 Free (50.15), Matthew DunLany in the 100 Fly (52.17) and the 500 Free (4:58.44), and Noah Basista in the 200 IM (1:56.71) and the 100 Breast (1:02.50). Boardman Swimmers and Divers Defeat the Poland Bulldogs

On a cold and wintry night, the Spartans Swim and Dive Team heated up the waters at Beeghly Natatorium and defeated the Bulldogs on both sides of the meet.

The Lady Spartan Swimmers and Divers won the meet 128.5-57.5. Leading the Spartans to victory included double winners sophomore Ella Huston in the 200 IM (2:36.26) and the 100 Backstroke (1:11.08) and freshman Alexis Mihok in the 50 Free (25.99) and the 100 Butterfly (1:05.73). Single event winners include junior Casey Wert in the 200 Free (2:20.49), senior Alyssa DiNapoli in the 100 Freestyle (:59.42), and junior Ava Velasquez in the 500 Free (6:19.08).

Both Teams Win AAC Conference Titles for the 6th Straight Year. Boardman Swimmers Set New Marks

The Spartan Swimmers won their 6th straight AAC Conference Championship with an impressive TEAM performance. “In order to have a chance to win this Championship meet with our girl’s team, each athlete had to contribute and score. Some younger swimmers were asked to step up and swim events they have never tried before.
