Brooke Bailey Places 11th and Jessica Hilk Places 20th At Division I State Swimming Championships
Medley Relay Finishes in 18th place
Junior Spartan swimmer Brooke Bailey earned All-Ohio Honors in swimming with her 11th place finish in the 100 yard Breaststroke in Canton on Saturday. Going into the Saturday night final Bailey was seeded in 14th place. Her final’s time of 1:06.50 moved her up to 11th place. Senior Jessica Hilk placed 20th in the 100 butterfly in the time of 59.21. Both girls teamed with Junior Sarah Gonda and Senior Jordyn Markovitch on the 200 Medley Relay. The Spartans swam the second best medley relay time in school history (1:50.61). The same four girls posted the school record time of 1:49.31 the previous week at the district qualifier in Cleveland.

“Division I swimming in Ohio always ranks in the top four fastest states in the country. It is a huge accomplishment just to qualify for Ohio’s state meet. Our girls had an excellent weekend! Brooke’s breaststroke swim in the consolation final was very exciting. She came on strong on the last lap and moved up three places from her 14th seeding. Jessica’s end of the season swimming performance has been electrifying. Besides finishing in the top 20 in the state in fly, she broke 2 individual school records at the district meet (100 fly and 200 free) and swam a great fly split of 25.86 on the school record setting medley relay at districts. Brooke’s breaststroke legs at the district and state meets were the best we have ever had. Our backstroke specialist and school record holder Sarah Gonda led off with strong swims in both meets and our senior freestyle sprinter Jordyn Markovitch closed it out both times with very fast splits. The best part of the weekend was that the girls realized that all of their hard work paid off and they had reached the goals they had set as individuals and as a team. The bad news is that Jessica and Jordyn are graduating. The good news is that both Brooke and Sarah return next season.”
