14 Spartan Swimmers and 4 Divers Qualify for the District Championships at Cleveland State University

Kyle Kimerer Leads Spartan Boys Winning Two Individual Sectional Titles

Senior Spartan Kyle Kimerer won the 100 Butterfly and the 200 Freestyle at the N. E. District Swimming Canton Sectional Meet held at C. T. Branin Natatorium in Canton. Kyle also led off the sectional record setting 400 freestyle relay with teammates Matthew DunLany, Noah Basista, and Callen Aulizia. The same four swimmers set the record at last year’s sectional meet in the time of 3:13.49. The Spartans posted the new record this year of 3:10.94. North Canton Hoover placed second in the event with the time of 3:11.79. Coach Terry O’Halloran had this to say about the Spartan relay:

This was an exciting conclusion to a very successful sectional meet for our entire team. These boys have been swimming together on relays for the past two years. They are gifted athletes who know how to handle high pressure situations. Going against North Canton Hoover in the final event of the sectional meet brought out the best in them. Even more exciting is that both teams will get to swim against each other again along with other top teams at Districts this weekend in Cleveland.

Sophomore Matthew DunLany also won the sectional title in the 500 freestyle. Other Spartan swimmers who qualified to swim events at the district meet are: Callen Aulizia 50 and 100 Freestyle, 200 Medley and 400 Freestyle Relays; Kyle Kimerer 100 Butterfly, 200 Freestyle, 200 Medley and 400 Freestyle Relay; Noah Basista 200 IM, 100 Breaststroke, 200 Medley and 400 Freestyle Relays; Matthew DunLany 100 Butterfly, 500 Freestyle, 200 Medley and 400 Freestyle Relays; Jordan Stackpole 200 Freestyle, 100 Butterfly, and 200 Freestyle Relay; Will Linker 200, 100 Freestyle, and 200 Freestyle Relay; Mason Rassega 50 and 100 Freestyle, and 200 Freestyle Relay; David Giancola 100 Freestyle and 200 Freestyle Relay; Mikel Flatley 50 Freestyle, 100 Butterfly, 200 and 400 Freestyle Relays; Jennah Markovitch 50 Freestyle, 100 Freestyle, 200 and 400 Freestyle Relays; Sarah Murray 200 Freestyle, 500 Freestyle, and 400 Freestyle Relay; Alyssa DiNapoli 200 and 400 Freestyle Relays; Alison Kuras 200 Freestyle Relay and 100 Breaststroke, Abby Yocum 100 Breaststroke.
